This work is based on some of my flooded Katrina photos. These images were severely distorted in the flood waters. They're all self-portraits. For this body of work, I developed a new technique that I call "mulched thread painting". This involves customizing colors by cutting up bundles of thread...each bundle may contain up to 10 different colors. Cutting the bundles turns them into fibers that I then applique to a canvas that has already been roughed out with an acrylic underpainting.
